Sometimes on my early morning walk I wander around the Churchyard at Newburn. I love the sense of that pace being part of the community for over 1000 years. I find myself attracted to the quiet space where people have gathered over the centuries, saying farewell to loved ones and commending them into God's care. This morning I am preparing to conduct a funeral of someone who was brought up in Newburn, in The Dukes House, which is near the Almshouses. I think it is sad that we don't have more sacred space in Newburn where we can bury our dead. Maybe I should try and do something about it.
